Posted by Erica Larson on July 1, 2009

For years, horse owners have been putting their horses health before theirs, and using all the latest approaches to medicine to keep them healthy.  One of the most popular new therapies for horses is massage therapy.  Equine massage therapy has gained popularity as more people see how effective and how inevasive – as opposed to surgery – it is.

Today, we follow massage therapist Meghan Maier to a farm in Howell, Michigan.  Watch and learn as Meghan does the first treatment on a Thoroughbred gelding named El Dorado’s Quest.  “Dorado” has been having some issues under saddle, and his owner has noticed an increase in the ammount of bucking Dorado has been doing.  See what Meghan discovers about Dorado in the video below!

2008 MSU Miracle Pet Loves Life

Posted by Erica Larson on June 10, 2009

In 2001, Judy Annett’s horse Capercaillie gave birth to a stunning chestnut colt.  The foal, christened Caruso, began his life by taking it easy with Caillie for a few years, before going into training to become a Dressage horse.  For the first few years, things went well.  Several trainers worked with Caruso and he began his show career at age five.  But in December 2007, disaster struck.

Caruso became extremely ill when he contracted the Salmonella virus.  He was admitted to MSU’s Large Animal Hospital where he remained for three weeks before coming home to make an attempt at recovery.  A few months later, Caruso was honored with the title of Large Animal Miracle Pet of the Year.

Where is the Miracle Pet now?  Watch the video to find out.
