Michigan State students comment on Kanye/Swift

It’s the story everyone is talking about this week. Rapper Kanye West interrupts Taylor Swift during her acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards.

We asked students to chime in about the incident.

Kanye, after swiping the mic, at least left Taylor with the “Moon Man.”

Bob Gould, Instructor Biography

Bob Gould is in his second year as visiting broadcast instructor for the Michigan State University School of Journalism. He is teaching broadcast journalism, is the Executive Producer of “Focal Point,” the student-run TV newscast, and co-teaches a digital new media class.

Bob was a TV news photojournalist for 17 years, the last 14 at WZZM-TV, the Gannett station in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He served as the Chief Photojournalist there for 12 years overseeing a staff of 11 photojournalists and editors. Prior to that, he was a staff photographer at WILX-TV in Lansing, Michigan. Bob served as the president of the Michigan TV News Photographers’ Association (MTNPA) for 6 years.

Bob recently finished up his tenure as President of the National Press Photographers Association (NPPA), a 10,000 member organization dedicated to the profession of TV and still photojournalists from around the world. Prior to his presidency he served as NPPA Vice President and a member of the NPPA Board of directors. Bob joined the NPPA in 1995.

During his career, Bob has been honored with more than 40 awards for his work from the NPPA, MAB (Michigan Assoc. Broadcasters), and Michigan Associated Press, including, “Best Individual Photojournalism” in 1998 and 2006. He also has been honored with 5 EMMY nominations and 2 EMMY awards. The WZZM staff has been honored as the MTNPA “Station of the Year” two consecutive years and runners-up four times.

And as important as his career is, Bob’s family is most important to him. He wouldn’t be able to get through his daily routine without the help of his wife Susan; 10-year-old daughter, Ilene; and 5 year-old son, Isaac.

Great work so far

Hi everyone…I have been watching and reading some of your work and it really is looking great. You guys are doing well.

The bios are creative and informative. I haven’t watched everything, but there are a couple of good stories on there.

Shawn and I can’t wait to see more of your videos. Make sure you post them by the end of today. You’ve inspired me to post a video, so I will try to do that soon. See you in class tomorrow.
