Daniel Opsommer’s Bio

Hey everyone,

My name is Daniel Opsommer, and I came to Michigan State University in the fall of 2006 with the intentions on graduating with a major in Humanities Pre-Law. However, through some unforeseen circumstances I changed my major following my freshman year to journalism without much consideration as to what I really wanted to gain by doing so.

As it turns out I will now be graduating in May with a major in journalism and a specialization in history, and can honestly say that the entire process has changed my perception on the media and what it means to be a Journalist in today’s society. While I don’t feel that Journalism is my calling and would rather explore other options I do not regret my choice, because I feel that it has equipped me with good understanding of multimedia and the evolving role that it plays within our society.

It has been a lifelong dream of mine to become an attorney. I am currently studying to take the LSAT in December and February this year and applying to several Midwest law schools: Thomas M. Cooley, MSU, Northwestern, and U of M (I know). My goal is to enroll in the fall of 2010 at one of the 4 schools in hopes to study either criminal or international law with a side study in either business or political science.

My ultimate goal is to become a respected and dignified attorney and then try my hand in politics and conclude my career as a professor and author. Of course, these are only goals that I have set for myself, but one of my favorite quotes to live by is, “Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss you will land amongst the stars.” I’m not sure who originally quoted this, but I believe it’s a good message to live by.
